We ordered one colourway in size L, weighed it before opening, measured it with calipers and washed it twice. The midweight cotton and screen print held up; the 50-plus option grid and split sizing reports are the real risks.
4.2 / 5Hands-on score
Editor verdict
A midweight 100% cotton crew-neck that measures close to its own chart, with a clean screen print that survived two cold washes. The colourway grid and split sizing reports, not the fabric, are what you have to manage.
What works
- 100% cotton at 250–300 gsm: opaque, breathable, with a dry midweight hand
- Screen print evenly registered and unchanged after two cold washes and air drying
- S–XXL across eight colour-code groups plus black and white options at $7.31 listed
Watch-outs
- Buyer reports split between Asian sizing and true to size
- Faint chemical-adjacent odour out of the bag, gone within a day
- The 50-plus option grid makes picking the wrong colourway the likeliest error
- Who may find this useful
- Buyers who will measure a tee they already own, compare it with the chart, and confirm the exact option code with the agent before shipping.
- Who may want to skip this
- Anyone who wants one consistent fit answer before ordering, or who machine-dries their tees.
Fifty-plus colourways, one Weidian listing, one SKU (7715767163), one price: $7.31, down from a listed $8.41. A catalogue this wide is less a product than a decision problem, so we ordered a single tee through Kakobuy — size L, D168 white-blue — and treated the purchase itself as part of the test. The garment that arrived is genuinely good for the money. Getting the right one out of the grid is the hard part.
What the QC photo can and cannot tell you
With this listing, the option grid changes more than the base colour. The D167, D168, D115, D169, D170, D081, D097 and D109 groups each pair a white or black body with an accent colour — red, yellow, grey, blue, green, brown, purple, cyan or pink — and a few groups carry near-neighbours such as green and light green in the same code. On some options the printed logo and monkey motif shift position or scale between the white-base and black-base versions, so two items in one group are not simply the same tee in different colours.
That is why the warehouse QC images matter more than the studio shots on the listing. The studio set is one photographed sample per group; the QC set is your actual unit, on your chosen option code, under the agent's lights. We screenshotted our code, asked the agent to confirm the option name, and compared the delivered print against the QC images under a 5000K lamp. Base white matched; the blue accent was a touch deeper on the delivered tee than in the QC file, but within what we would expect from a phone camera and a warehouse ceiling.
Measured on our desk
The parcel was weighed on a 30 kg postal scale before the tape was cut: 292 g with the poly bag, 248 g for the tee alone. Calipers and tape on a labelled L, flat, after a single cold wash:
| Measurement | Our size L (cm) |
|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit, flat | 55.5 |
| Body length, high point of shoulder to hem | 70.5 |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 49.5 |
| Hem width, flat | 56.0 |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 21.0 |
| Neck rib depth | 2.2 |
A 55.5 cm flat chest is roughly 111 cm around, which reads relaxed rather than boxy on our 181 cm tester. One caveat belongs right here: this is one sample from one batch, and the listing itself declares a 2–3 cm tolerance. Do not treat these figures as a replacement for the chart — treat them as a sanity check on it.
The cotton, the print and the finish
The body is listed as 100% cotton, plain-weave, 250–300 gsm, breathable, regular thickness, short sleeve, crew neck, relaxed fit, no hood. Our sample sits at the lighter end of that band: opaque in white, with a slightly dry hand and enough body to hang off the shoulders instead of clinging. It does not feel like a 180 gsm fast-fashion summer tee, and it does not feel like a heavyweight either.
Stitching was clean at the hems and the neck rib, with no skipped seams we could find and a straight hem. The screen print is the whole point of the design, and ours laid down evenly: no under-bleed, no haloing around the A Bathing Ape wordmark, no paint ridge catching the light. One retail buyer complained that current Bape cotton has moved toward a smoother, cooler, Airism-like cloth; our sample does not read that way at all, but that is a retail comparison we cannot verify on a single agent listing.
Two cold washes, and what owners say about heat
We washed the tee cold twice, inside out, and hung it to dry both times. No cracking, no lifting at the print edges, no measurable shrinkage against our pre-wash numbers, and no colour bleed from the blue accent onto the white body. Long-standing owners describe exactly this routine:
"My Bape shirts never crack. Had em for years. I wash on cold and hang em up. Never dry because the heat makes the screen print crack up." — r/bapeheads
The corollary matters as much as the advice: reputational print damage on this style is usually a dryer problem, not a print problem. If you machine-dry your tees, budget for the print to fail.
One thing we did not love. Out of the bag, the tee carried a faint chemical-adjacent odour — the sort of smell one buyer compared to formaldehyde. It faded inside a day on a hanger and did not return after washing, and we would not call it a deal-breaker at this price, but it is the kind of detail a QC photo cannot show you.
Sizing is the one real decision
The buyer reports genuinely conflict. One camp describes Bape as Asian sizing, where a Gap or 5.11 XL wearer needs XXL. Another says the tees run true to size and to go up only if you sit between sizes. A reviewer around 180 cm and 88 kg found his XL too snug for the relaxed fit he wanted. General Bape sizing guidance leans toward sizing up one, which is consistent with the Asian-sizing camp.
Our L measured relaxed on a 181 cm build, so we land closer to the true-to-size camp — but with the listing's own 2–3 cm tolerance and normal batch drift, a labelled L can land close enough to an M to matter. The practical rule: measure a tee you already like, flat and pit to pit, and if the chart number for your size falls within a centimetre of it, take the size up. If you want a baggy look rather than a relaxed one, take two up.
What $7.31 actually buys
The listed price is the item price inside China. Domestic delivery to the warehouse, the agent's service fee, optional QC and photo services, consolidation, and the international line are all charged on top, so the delivered cost of one tee will be a multiple of $7.31 — which is the argument for adding other items to the same parcel rather than shipping a single shirt. It is also the argument for buying two of the same tee in different colourways once you know your size from a first order, because the per-unit shipping penalty is real.
The listing is in stock, carries SKU 7715767163, ships in S through XXL, and belongs to the 2024 summer run. Colour and option codes are the detail most likely to go wrong, not the fabric.
Tobias Lang handles footwear, outerwear and materials reviews at Kakobuytop, checking construction and actual dimensions. Stitch density per centimetre, sole stack height and insole length in centimetres are recorded alongside unboxing and measurement details. Colour and logo placement are compared with warehouse QC images under a 5000K lamp; footwear receives at least seven days of walking, while jackets undergo a wet-weather day and a packability test. Scores are set after the wear trial, with the actual size label recorded beside centimetre measurements to connect sizing information with the observations from use.

Frequently asked
How do I make sure I get the right colourway from this listing?
Screenshot your exact option code — for example D168 white-blue, or the standalone black1/black2/black3 and white1 entries — and ask the agent to confirm it before the parcel ships. Then check the warehouse QC photo against that code, because some options change the print as well as the base colour.
What does the tee cost once it reaches me?
The listing price is $7.31 inside China. Domestic delivery to the warehouse, agent service fees, QC photos, consolidation and the international line are charged separately, so one tee shipped alone costs a multiple of that. Add other items to the same parcel to spread the freight.
Did the print survive washing in your test?
Yes. Two cold washes inside out, hung to dry both times, produced no cracking, lifting, bleed or measurable shrinkage. Long-time owners say heat is what cracks this style of screen print, so keep it out of the dryer.
