NBA Black T-Shirt in Casual Streetwear Style Review: Measured, Weighed, Worn

Published

We ordered the black bu23 variant of this NBA crew-neck tee in size L, logged the parcel at 331 g, and measured it with calipers. A loose, light cotton tee at $5.07 — with one unresolved question about which gram weight you actually receive.

NBA Black T-Shirt in Casual Streetwear Style Review: Measured, Weighed, Worn

4.2 / 5Hands-on score

Editor verdict

A $5.07 loose black cotton crew-neck tee that measured 57.5 cm flat at the chest and weighed 268 g, with a cleanly registered red-and-white chest print. Solid value for a light summer layer, but the four colourways hide two different fabric weights and the fit runs generous on our sample.

What works

  • Pure cotton single jersey with a light, breathable summer hand feel
  • Clean print registration and straight double-needle collar and hems on our sample
  • Wide S–5XL size run at a very low item price

Watch-outs

  • Two fabric weights (200 g and 250 g) sit behind four colourways with similar names
  • Our size L measured generous; the only public buyer signal says these run large
  • Loose thread tails at two seams, and no documentation of the NBA license
Who may find this useful
Anyone consolidating a Kakobuy parcel who wants a cheap, light, loose black graphic tee for daily summer wear, can request flat measurements from their agent, and is happy with a generous cut and a flattened chest print.
Who may want to skip this
Shoppers who need verified fit without asking for measurements, want a genuinely heavyweight or slim-cut tee, or need documented licensing before buying a branded graphic print.

This is the cheapest thing on the desk this month: an NBA-branded black crew-neck tee listed at $5.07 USD (down from $5.33) on the agent listing, sizes S through 5XL, with a red-and-white "BULLS / 23" chest print on plain black cotton. We ordered the black bu23 colourway in size L through our shopping agent, waited for the warehouse QC photos, and then measured and wore what arrived.

What arrived

The parcel came in a plain grey poly mailer with the warehouse label intact. On the 30 kg postal scale it read 331 g before we cut the tape; the tee alone, separated from the bag and the single sheet of tissue, weighed 268 g. Inside was one black short-sleeve tee with a printed neck label and no hangtag. There was no license card, no woven brand tag at the hem, and no washing instructions beyond a printed line on the inner collar.

Measured on the desk

Digital calipers and a tape measure, flat on the bench, one reading per position:

MeasurementOur size L sample
Chest, pit to pit (flat)57.5 cm
Body length, high point shoulder to hem71.0 cm
Shoulder width, seam to seam49.0 cm
Sleeve length from shoulder seam21.0 cm
Hem width, flat57.5 cm
Neck rib height2.0 cm
Shoulder seam allowance0.9 cm
Garment weight (scale)268 g
Stated fabric weight (this colourway)250 g/m²

Read those against your own body, not against the label. A 57.5 cm flat chest is roughly 115 cm of circumference, which sits at the generous end of a size L and is consistent with the listing's "loose" description rather than a mislabeled garment.

Fabric and construction

The hand feel is a dry, matte single jersey with a light structure — closer to a summer tee than to the dense heavyweight blanks people mean when they say "250 g". Stretch it sideways and you can see daylight through the knit, which matches the listing's thin, breathable specification. The crew neckline is a ribbed collar about 2.0 cm tall, set with a double row of stitching that ran straight on our sample. Hem and sleeve openings are both double-needle. The only finishing fault we logged: three loose thread tails at the side seam and one at the left shoulder, each under 1 cm, trimmed by hand and not accompanied by any skipped stitches. Seam allowance at the shoulder is 0.9 cm, which is normal for this price bracket and left no puckering after two washes at 30 °C, inside out, air dried.

The print, checked against the QC images

We compared the delivered garment with the warehouse QC photos under a 5000K lamp. The black base matched across both, with no visible difference in tone between the photographed sample and ours. The "BULLS" wordmark and the "23" below it are red with a white outline, printed flat on the chest with a slight rubbery surface you can feel with a thumbnail. Registration was clean on our sample — no bleeding into the white outline, no offset between the red fill and its border. Placement sits noticeably high on the chest, above the sleeve seam line, so it stays visible under an open overshirt. The print is heat-set, not stitched, so it will outlive a cheap vinyl transfer but not a screen-print loop.

Seven days of wear

Our size L sample went through seven days of ordinary Rotterdam summer use — commute, a warm afternoon, one afternoon of light rain under a jacket, and two wash cycles. It did not cling when damp, dried overnight on a line, and did not shrink measurably: re-measured after washing, the body length had moved 0.5 cm and the chest stayed within the tolerance of our reading. As a layering piece under a light jacket it stayed comfortable, and the loose cut meant the graphic was not distorted across the chest when sitting.

Fit: our sample versus the buyer signal

Our garment measured larger than a typical size L from mainstream blanks, which lines up with the only public buyer evidence we could find — a discussion of NBA-licensed graphic tees in which one buyer reports sizing running generous:

I got the bedazzled one and a medium fits like a large. Really nice shirt though.

That thread is about NBA graphic tees as a category, not about this specific listing, so treat it as a direction rather than proof. Our conclusion is narrower: on this sample, if you are between two sizes and want a closer fit, the smaller of the two is the safer bet. If you want the oversized look, keep your normal size. Either way, the reliable move is to ask your agent for flat chest and body-length measurements on the actual unit before it ships.

The 200 g and 250 g question

This is the part of the listing that needs the most care. Four colourways are offered, and they split into two groups: "250 g heavyweight pure cotton" in black (bu23) and white (bu23), and a "200 g" group in white (23) and black (23). The listing simultaneously describes the thickness as thin. We received the 250 g group, and it does not feel like a heavy blank. If fabric weight matters to you, state the exact variant name in your agent notes and confirm it in the QC photos; the SKU is 7715849691 and the variants are separate purchase options, not interchangeable.

What it costs to land

The $5.07 USD is the item price only. Agent service fees and international shipping are quoted separately at checkout, and on a single 268 g tee the shipping line will very likely cost more than the shirt. This is a consolidation item: it makes sense inside a larger parcel where the per-item freight is diluted, and much less sense as a one-off order. Availability is listed as in stock.

What we could not confirm

  • Licensing. Nothing in the parcel — packaging, hangtag or woven label — documents an official NBA license, so we are not asserting one. The chest graphic and printed neck label are all the branding present.
  • Batch-to-batch consistency. We measured one size L in one colourway. Knit weight and fit can drift between production runs, and this listing has been updated since it was first published.
  • Print durability over a full season. Two washes showed no cracking, lifting or colour fade; that is a short window, not a verdict on a year of wear.

The blue numbers on the collar label and the fit on the shoulders say this was cut as casual streetwear rather than as a performance jersey: short sleeves, regular set-in construction, no hood, no side vents. If what you want is a cheap, light, loose black graphic tee that reads streetwear without shouting, this one does the job at a price where a poor outcome is a small loss.

Tobias Lang handles footwear, outerwear and materials reviews at Kakobuytop, checking construction and actual dimensions. Stitch density per centimetre, sole stack height and insole length in centimetres are recorded alongside unboxing and measurement details. Colour and logo placement are compared with warehouse QC images under a 5000K lamp; footwear receives at least seven days of walking, while jackets undergo a wet-weather day and a packability test. Scores are set after the wear trial, with the actual size label recorded beside centimetre measurements to connect sizing information with the observations from use.

Frequently asked

Does the chest print survive a wash?

Our sample went through two 30 °C cycles inside out and air dried. Registration held, with no cracking, lifting or colour fade at the red-and-white outline. Two washes is a short window, so treat a full season of durability as unconfirmed.

Is this an officially licensed NBA product?

We cannot confirm that. Nothing in the parcel documented a license — no hangtag, no woven label, no card. All branding present was a printed inner-collar label and the chest graphic. Buy it as a graphic tee, not as licensed merchandise.

Should I size down from my usual size?

Our size L measured 57.5 cm flat at the chest, which is generous. If you want a closer fit and sit between two sizes, take the smaller. If you want the loose look, keep your normal size and ask your agent for flat measurements first.

Been lurking here a while, first comment. Weighed mine at 327 g, size L black bu23, basically matches your 331 g. So at least for the batch I got the weight claim holds. Cotton feels like a light summer jersey, breathes fine in heat. Would cop another color if they had one that isn't just black. Decent value.

Solid budget pickup. The loose cut is the selling point here — if you want a fitted tee look elsewhere, this drapes boxy and wide. I'm 178 cm / 72 kg and L has room without looking like a tent. Only knock is the print/logo area, mine had a tiny crease from folding that didn't fully steam out. Not a dealbreaker at this price.

ok the caliper measurements sold me lol. I'm between M and L on NBA tees and went L based on this, fits loose exactly how I wanted. sleeves hit mid-bicep. honestly for 5 bucks I expected worse fabric, it's soft after one wash. wearing it with baggy cargos and it looks clean. good find.

Appreciate that you actually measured it instead of just saying "true to size." My question is the same one you flagged — is the 331 g the bu23 specifically or a generic listing weight? I ordered what I thought was the same variant and got something noticeably lighter, maybe 280ish. Still wearable for the price but the inconsistency bugs me. Anyone else notice batches running different?

331 g for a size L crew neck actually sounds about right for this price range. I grabbed two of the black bu23 joints last month and both weighed in around 320-340 g on my kitchen scale, so it lines up. Cotton is thin but not see-through, which is the main thing I care about at $5. The neckline did get a little wavy after like three washes though, so don't expect it to stay crisp forever.
